Examples of Work Related to Data Development & Secure Data Environments
1. Development of data labs for housing, curating, and analysing sensitive/proprietary data (Public Economics Data Analysis Laboratory (2003-2016); Melbourne Institute Secure Environment which is now the Melbourne Institute Data Lab (2017-2024).
2. Development of data sets capturing charity revenues and expenditure (1993 – present). This work has involved working with data from the following countries (for different projects) United States (to 2012), Canada (to 2016), Australia (under way).
3. Breaking Down Barriers Community Profiles (joint with others in the Melbourne Institute). We created a series of interactive visualisations to capture core statistics (current and historic) to inform on how communities have changed economically and demographically. (2022-2024)
4. Data to capture university participation and university enrollment transformed from tax filer data and special data requests from the Department of Education (2024/2025) (joint with Ana Gamarra)
5. Youth View (joint with Steeve Marchand and Ujjwal KC). We created a series of interactive visualisations and a storybook to explore the intersections across youth neet & unemployment, regional job opportunities, and other characteristics that can influence youth transitions from schooling to employment. (2023/2024)
6. Development of design and initial implementation of creating secure shared data environments (aka secure data community of practices) for understanding economic and social disadvantage in Australia (2020 – 2024). In and Out of Poverty (joint with Chaminda Rajeev Samarage and Maxim Ananyev). A creation of visualisations that explore the dynamics of poverty across different demographics to better understand the correlations between moving into or out of poverty. (2021/2022)
7. Development of Ontario, Canada Data for studying issues in education (e.g. school choice, school board consolidation) and the pursuit of university degrees (2003-2016) (joint with Justin Smith and others affiliated with McMaster University).
8. Development of employment discrimination claims and judicial selection in states (US data (2008-2013).
